Caring for your Lanott furniture

Good furniture asks very little. Most of what shortens the life of a sofa or a table is not use — it is sunlight, moisture and the wrong cleaning product.

Upholstery. Vacuum seat and back cushions with a soft brush attachment every couple of weeks, and rotate and plump loose cushions so they wear evenly. Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth rather than rubbing, and work inwards from the edge of the mark. Keep upholstered pieces out of direct sun where you can; strong light fades fabric faster than daily use does.

Wood and veneered surfaces. Dust with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth and dry immediately. Use coasters and mats — heat and standing water are the two things a finish cannot recover from — and keep pieces away from direct sun and from air-conditioning that blows straight onto them. Avoid solvents, alcohol and abrasive creams.

Marble. Wipe with a soft cloth and clean water, and dry the surface. Marble is porous, so lift spills of anything acidic — citrus, wine, coffee — straight away, and never use vinegar or a general descaling cleaner on it.

Every few months. Check that screws and levellers on legs and frames are still snug, and that a piece is sitting level on the floor. A table that rocks slightly is loosening a joint every time someone leans on it.

When a piece needs more than that. We offer two aftercare services in-house: a fabric change, if you want an existing piece re-covered, and professional cleaning for upholstery. Both are subject to inspection and quotation, so send us a photo on WhatsApp and we will tell you honestly what is worth doing.

Our furniture also carries a five-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship, with the normal exclusions for wear, misuse and accidental damage — the details are on our terms page.
